South East Open Medals

On October 2nd an Axis competition team travelled to Rayleigh in Essex for the South East Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Open, with 10 competitors entering and winning 10 medals (5 Golds, 3 Silvers and 2 Bronze) including Golds in both the White and Blue belt Absolute (open-weight) categories.

Getting the day off to a good start, Matt Halsey won Silver in the Featherweight White belt Adult, fighting in a younger age group than usual. David Bloxham took double Gold, winning both the White belt Medium Heavyweight Masters and the White belt Absolute. Andy Salmon, Kevin Sakaldip and Carl Rein won Gold, Silver and Bronze in the White belt Heavyweight Adult, with Andy Salmon also winning Silver in the White belt Absolute.

Ben Wigley won Gold in the Blue belt Absolute winning a tough series of fights against much heavier opponents after already competing and winning Bronze in the Blue belt Lightweight Adult category. Jon Nicholson won Gold moving up a weight to the Blue belt Featherweight Adult.
